T-53 Days

How is it already the 11th of August!? Panic is definitely starting to set in

I’ve been super busy with various things over the past few days, but the main thing I’ve been working on is the Starsim website. There’s still a fair bit of writing and organising that I need to do.

It likely isn’t very mobile compatible yet, but I’ll get to that.

I also spent a while working with the plugin developer mentioned in the last update, to get their plugin packaging properly in UE5. We managed to get it all sorted, and thankfully that meant I was able to get dev build 0.220.5 out of the door and live on Steam.

I’m still planning to release the alpha tech demo to the Discord community in around 3 weeks for some intensive bug testing ahead of the Steam Next Fest on October 3rd, and to that end, I have the following to-do list;

  • Finish the Starsim website
  • Finish and polish the Main Menu, the Multiplayer Menu, and the Settings Page.
  • Update and polish the Main Menu background sequence.
  • Move the ship’s starting location so that Earth is visible from the Conference Room window.
  • Add the ability to sit in chairs around the ship, but most importantly at the Bridge stations.
  • Fix the prop system so that you can pick up objects around the ship again. (Broken in UE5)
  • Make sure the Alert system is fully working in multiplayer, and add some sound effects.
  • Update all of the Engineering panels so that the buttons work in multiplayer.
  • Add a door for the crew lift, and possibly an actual lift if there’s time.
  • Add the ability to control the reactor at a basic level.
  • Add an in-game chat box for multiplayer, and see if I can fix the voice chat. (Also broken in UE5)

If I can get all of that done by the 1st September, then that gives me a whole month for;

  • Fix any bugs found during the September testing period.
  • Finish the Bridge interior, including the other crew stations.
  • Add the VIP quarters to B Deck and finish that corridor ring.
  • Add the security stations on B and F Decks.
  • Add all the actual reactor systems for proper cold start procedures.
  • Hook up A Deck to the electrical system properly.
  • Add additional panels to the rooms so that you can turn off the lights etc.
  • Make a cold-start tutorial mission.

Will I get it all done in time? Probably not. Will I get enough of it done? Hopefully! laughing
