I’ve been rather neglecting these updates here of late, which is not because of a lack of available content, it’s more a struggle on my part to nail the design I’ve been trying to achieve, and therefore getting so mentally drained that I’m always falling asleep before I can find my way to this channel. In fact the same thing nearly happened tonight, but I’m forcing myself to get it done!
Last week I was able to largely achieve what I was aiming for with the walls of the A Deck entrance corridor, and I also fleshed it out a little more with some benches (for when you’re waiting to be dressed down by the Captain) and some floor detailing:
But when it came to the ceiling I’ve been really struggling to find a design that pops and looks the part. I must have tried at least a dozen variations at this point, and the closest one to something reasonable is the one below, which is symbolic of the milky way above the earth (which is on the walls). Or perhaps clouds parting to reveal the stars. Either way, I like the symbolism
Symbolism aside I’m still not completely loving it though, so I decided to shelve it for now and work on the Conference Room instead to establish its design language. I’m much happier with how this turned out, and the same stylings will also look great in the Captain and XO offices. The chairs are temporary and the table isn’t finished yet (I’m going to add a holo-display), but other than some technical work on the lighting it’s largely complete:
I’m going to see if I can take some of this design language and use it to form the corridor ceiling, but if that still doesn’t work I’ll carry on and build the offices next. A Deck is turning out to be quite sophisticated, and I’m looking forward to carrying that on into the Bridge and VIP Lounge
